Why these apps are free
A lot of the software people pay for every month is simple, and costs its makers almost nothing to run. The subscription pays for sales teams, growth targets and the next round. We think the simple ones should be free.
What we build
Free versions of the apps people and their AI assistants reach for every day. For work: e-signatures, forms, short links and QR codes, scheduling, booking pages, PDF and image tools, dictation and invoices. For life: language lessons, meditation and sleep sounds, a baby monitor, expense splitting and sign-up sheets. They have the features you would pay for, on purpose. More are on the way, chosen by what people ask for.
Our promise
Free software that is reputable, secure, reliable, and stays free.
- Reputable. Every app carries the same name and the same promise, and its source is public. You can see exactly what it does.
- Secure. Private by default. No ads, no tracking pixels, no data sold. Where it can, an app runs on your device, and the baby monitor's video goes straight between your phones.
- Reliable. Built on Bounded, where each app's data rules are checked by a prover before every release and enforced on every write. A change that breaks them does not ship.
- Free, and it stays free. Each app is an OpenApp: it cannot be quietly closed or turned into a paid one, and it can be handed to the people who use it. Anything with a real cost per use, like AI, is charged at cost.
How it stays free
Each app is built to be cheap to run. PDF tools, dictation and meditation sounds run on your device, so they cost nothing. A form response or a lesson's progress is one tiny write. The baby monitor's video goes straight between your phones. We pay the hosting and storage bill and charge nothing for it. If an app has a real cost per use, like AI, it charges exactly that cost and says so on the page. Never more.
There are no ads, no tracking pixels and no data for sale. There is no paid tier to push you toward, so there is no reason to cripple the free one.
Every app is an OpenApp
The apps here run on OpenApps. An OpenApp has its source in public, an agent of its own that keeps improving it, and a path to being handed to the community that uses it. We own these apps today. As each one grows, it can open, and from then on its users decide what happens to it. That is the promise behind "free": nobody can quietly take it away.
Built for AI assistants
More and more people ask an assistant to do things for them. When they ask for a free way to do something, the assistant should find one that works end to end. Every app here has a plain-text guide (llms.txt) and a public API with no key. See For AI.
One shared reputation
Every app carries the same name and the same promise. When one of them works well for you, you know what to expect from the rest. That is the idea: a library of free apps that gets more useful, and more trusted, with every app added.
List your own
Built a free alternative to a paid app? If it is an OpenApp and it stays free or at cost, it can be listed here. Here is how.
